| LeT Militant killed in Doda | | PHE employee, Ex-serviceman among 4 OGWs arrested | | Jammu | Mar 31—A Lashkar-e-Toiba (LET) militant was killed in an encounter at Kither area under the location of police station, Kishtwar in Doda Distt. According to SSP Doda Manohar Singh, last night police booked specific information regarding the presence of militants in Kither and a search and cordon operation was launched in the area. As per reports, militants opened indiscriminate firing on the approaching police party, the police party also retaliated in self defense and in the ensuing encounter one militant got killed. He has been identified as Mohd Ali code Abu Zar son of Mohd Abass Khan Resident of Sanwara, Section commander of LET out fit. The other militants managed to take away the weapon of the slain militant from the spot. However one grenade, 4 magazines of INSAS rifle and one pouch was recovered from his possession. Sources said the said militant was involved in a number of militancy related activities in Gandoh, Kishtwar and Thathri areas. On 23 May, 2005, he had looted one SLR rifle from SPO, Kuldeep Kumar. Similarly, on 17 May, 2006 the said militant had also looted one SLR along with ammunition from another SPO in Gandoh area. Meanwhile, Doda police has also arrested four Over Ground Workers (OGW) including a PHE Department employee and an ex- serviceman for their links with militants. Acting on a tip off, a police team swung into action and raided in a hideout and arrested four persons namely Mohd Ashraf son of Adh Wani resident of Trenkal, Gandoh employee in PHE Department, Rhemtullah son of Din Mohd resident of Surranga, presently at Kahara, Gandoh an Ex- Service Man, Din Mohd son of Abdullah Batt resident of Trenkal, Gandoh and Sajad Ahmed son of Gulam Qadir Wani resident of Bani Trenkal ,Gandoh and took them to police station for further interrogation. Sources said during questioning these OGWs admitted that they used to work for HUM militants namely Ashiq Hussain, Yasin, Altaf and Keen all active in Tanta, Gandoh area. Sources said they collected money from contractors@ 10%, Govt employees @ Rs 10,000 per annum and from locals @ 10% of the agriculture production. Moreover, they provide food, shelter, logistics and moral support to militants. These OGWs are being put to sustain questioning to know their other activities and links with militants.
