| 1st Police Friendship Cricket Tourney, 2007 | | B.P. Ed and Law Department wins in the opening encounters | | JAMMU MAR 31 The first Police Friendship Cricket Tournament was inaugurated by Gopal Sharma, Director General of Police here in the Boys Hostel Cricket Field at GGM Science College today. In the inaugural ceremony, Gopal Sharma was the chief guest and declared the tournament open in a grand function besides other police official was also present on the occasion. He stated the tournament shall be the annual feature and same shall be held in the month of November every year. He also said that outstanding and deserving players shall be sponsored by the Police for training at national insitiutes and will be absorbed in the department under sports category. He further announced that winner of the tournament was awarded with DGP’s Trophy and player of the tournament was honoured with cash prize of Rs 50,000 to boost the morale of the players. The inaugural match was played between B.P. Ed Department and Govt. Medical College, Jammu which was won by the B.P. Ed. The toss was won by B.P. Ed and elected to bat first. They piled up 126runs for the loss of six wickets in allotted 20overs game. While chasing the target, Medical College bundled out at 114runs and lost the match by 12runs. Pawan Kuamr of B.P. Ed declared man of the match for scoring 31runs and took 2wickets for the winning team. In the second match, Law Department of Jammu University thrashed New Modern College. New Modern College after winning the toss scored 58runs all out in 16.5runs while batting first. Law Department bowlers bowled with tight line and length and New Modern College lost the wickets in regular interval. Law Department chased the target of 61runs in just 8.2overs and entered the next round with high confidence. Ajit Paul of Law Deptt who took 3wickets by giving only 13runs in 4overs quota declared man of the match. Mukesh Singh (IPS), SSP Jammu was the chief guest in the second match and distributed the man of match awards in both matches being played today. Tomorrow, Law School of Jammu University will clash with Urdu Department and Physics and Electronics Department, JU will fight with Chemistry Department, JU.
