| Residential celebrate firs day in new districts | | | Jammu, April 02, (KIP): Large number of residents of four newly created
districts in Jammu region celebrated Monday as first working day by taking
out victory processions, distributing sweets and lighting government
buildings in their vicinity. Reports reaching here from various district headquarters indicated that
people in remote areas of Reasi, Ramban, Kishtwar and Samba came out of
their houses and thronged main streets in large processions to participate
in small functions organized on the occasion to mark the day. Large number of youth,elderly and others danced to the tunes of drum beats
and distributed sweets to mark the day. “We have struggled hard to see this
dream come true and today we feel we have realized our dream of attaining
district status, Ram Gopal an elderly resident of district Reasi said. Ram
Gopal claimed he had participated in the decade long struggle to attain
district status for Reasi. Similar repots reached here from Ramban district
where large number of people living in remote belts came together and
celebrated the day by organizing simple ceremonies. A senior police Officer in the Ramban district told Kashmir Independent
Press over telephone, large number of people took out victory processions
and danced to the tune of drum beats. He said there was an atmosphere of
jubiliation all over the place as people in remote hilly district felt
alienated all these years and had to travel long distance to get their
routine work dome. In Kishtwar, the first day started on a silent note but as day progressed
large number of people reached district headquarter and participated in
simple ceremonies organised by political workers of various parties and
distributed sweets. A large number of people also paid their tributes to all
those people who sacrificed their lives fighting for the district status. In
Samba also large number of residents took out victory processions and
distributed sweets beside slighting up govt buildings in the night.
