Muhammad Ali's boxing gloves fetch 520k pounds agencies London, Feb 24: Muhammad Ali`s boxing gloves fetched a whopping price of 520,000 pounds at a recently held auction in New York. The boxing gloves worn by the former world heavyweight champion when he won his first world title from Sonny Liston, on February 25, 50 years ago, have been sold for 520,000 pounds, the Mirror reported. Auction organizer Chris Ivy said that they had expected 300,000 pounds for the gloves; he said that the impressive result showed that Ali is a figure that transcends boxing.
J&K team leaves for Vijay Hazare trophy
Sports Reporter JAMMU, Feb 24: Led by Parvez Rasool, the state cricket team today left for participation in zonal limited overs competition for Vijay Hazare Trophy slated to be held at Feroz Shah Kotla ground, Delhi. In the opening tie, J&K shall take on Delhi on February 27, followed by the match against Services on March one. Other two matches of the North Zone event shall be played against Punjab (March 3) and Himachal Pradesh (March 5).In the last game, J&K shall take on Haryana on March 6. Earlier, the penal of selectors of Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association announced the teams on February 21 after witnessing the trials games played at GGM Science College Hostel Ground, here. Tapps Damana celebrates colourful Annual Day
ET REPORT Jammu, Feb 24: Tiger Army Pre Primary School (TAPPS) Damana celebrated a colourful Annual Day today. The event began with the presentation of the annual report by the Principal, Rajni Rikhye. Before this the customary lamp was lit by Col Aman Kaushal, Deputy Commander Chenab Brigade and Chairman of the School . What followed were a myriad of colourful songs and plays performed by the Tiny Tots. Saraswati Vandana was followed by Sha-La-La in which the audience was regaled by a wonderful dance and song performance by the little artistes. To highlight the importance of wild life in our existence 'Baag ki Sair' found the tiny tots dressed up a monkey, Birds butterflies and even acted like them. The message of communal harmony found ample resonance in 'Jhanki Hindustan Ki' which also brought out the Bhangra from Punjab and Ghoomer from Rajasthan. The enthusiasm was at its peck and joy galore. The Annual Day function was also attended by the parents of the tiny tots making it a total gathering of about 600 people. Prizes were distributed to meritorious students by the Chairman. The Chairman in his closing address appreciated the efforts of the staff of the school for the high standard of the school and for the excellent show during the Annual Day Function. He also stated that it takes the Tiny Tots, their teachers and the parents contribution to achieve excellence in the School. The function was brought to a close with singing of the National Anthem which was followed by refreshments for all members of the audience.
Cubs Bulbul Utsav’ celebrated at KV Bantalab
ET REPORT Jammu, Feb 24: "Cubs Bulbul Utsav" was celebrated in Kendriya Vidyalaya Bantalab today on the birthday of Lord Baden Powell,the founder of Bharat Scout & Guide movement with great zeal and enthusiasm . Chief guest AVLJ Rao (Divisional Commissioner) Jammu Region with other dignitaries Usha Shamindra (Assistant Commissioner), R.K.Shukla (Distt. Commissioner Laxmi Narayan, Sanjay Nagar, Nimmi Koul graced this occasion with their presence. Venue principal V. Santhosh Kumar presented welcome address to all dignitaries and participants. 288 cubs and bulbuls with their escorts from different Kendriya Vidyalayas of Jammu cluster participated in this Utsav and presented cultural activities in a beautiful manner. Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest in his address appreciated the students for participating in such activities that develop the personality of a child. Prizes to winners were distributed by the chief guest and utsav concluded with the vote of thanks presented by Anju Jamwal.
JU hosting 3 days workshop ET REPORT Jammu, Feb 24: The University of Jammu for the 1st time in its history is hosting a three day workshop for working journalist belonging to various newspapers of Jammu province. The three days workshop has been sponsored by National Council for Promotion of Urdu Language, Ministry of HRD, New Delhi, The workshop will be inaugurated by Prof. Khawaja Ekram, Director, National Council for Promotion for Urdu language, Minister of HRD on 28th of February 2014, while Jammu University Vice Chancellor Prof. MP Singh Ishar will grace the occasion as Chief Guest. Near about 40 working journalist are likely to participate in the workshop which is being organizes in the Prof. Gain Chand Jain seminar hall of the department of Urdu. Various reputed journalist like Jb. Ved Bhasin, Ali Jaweed, Farhat Rizwi and others will deliver their thought provoking lectures during the three day workshop.
