Jammu, Feb 24 : Minister for Medical Education Taj Mohi-Ud-Din today had to face volley of questions in the Upper House over misinformation propagated among masses about establishment of Super Specialty Hospital (SSH) in twin capital cities of Jammu and Srinagar on the pattern on AIIMS and other similar hospitals. The minister in reply to a starred question -C.Q. Number 58 admitted on the floor of the House that the SSH is not a replica of any AIIMS kind of hospital but an up gradation of existing GMC&Hs in the state. Following this admission, Vijay Bakaya questioned why misinformation has been propagated among masses about the establishment of a hospital similar to other superior hospitals like Medanta, Appollo and AIIMS to which the Minister said that it was a 'mistake in nomenclature'. Vijay Bakaya raising a supplementary questioned the failure of government over starting all the mentioned courses. "I have come to know that for the last over one year, only Nephrology department was fully equipped in the hospital and there was a shortage of staff as well as machinery to make other departments fully functional" the member said.In his reply, the Minister said that 422 personnel including paramedical staff are working in the Super Specialty Hospital, Jammu against the requirement of 819 which makes the hospital short of 50 percent faculty members, including 34 Registrars, 1 Medical Superintendent and 137 Paramedical staff and the posts falling under direct quota have been referred to the selection agencies. Vacant posts are also being catered by way of engagement on academic arrangement basis, in terms of the provision of SRO 384 of 2009. Following this, other coalition members including Dr. Shehnaz Ganai, Jehangir Hassan Mir, Gulam Qadir Pardesi, NK Gupta, Dr. Bashir Ahmed Veeri and only NPP legislator Syed Rafiq Shah also sought reply of their questions. Dr Ganai said that the hospital is working without any facility of oncology which is the need of hour in the state. |
