| LoC trade to resume today | | | Syed Tahir Bukhari
BARAMULLA, Feb 24 : The cross Line of Control (LoC) trade is all set to resume on Tuesday (Feb 25). The decision to resume the trade was taken in a meeting between Trade facilitation officers at Zero Point near Kaman Post near the Line of Control in this North Kashmir district. The meeting among others was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner, Baramulla Manzoor Ahmad Qadri and Custodian Officer, Showkat Ahmad Rather. From the other side, DG Trade retired Brigadier Mohammad Ismail Khan and Trade Facilitation Officer, Muzaffarabad Basharat Iqbal were among the meeting participants. Source said that before resuming the trade activities a meeting of 12 traders of both the sides was held at the zero point. In the meeting a proposal was accepted that the trade activities will be resumed from Tuesday. The meeting was also held to ensure that no untoward incident takes place in future. "It has been decided that the outstanding of traders of both sides will be cleared in a due course of time. We are keeping our fingers crossed and we will see how the situation takes place in the coming days. It is our request to governments on either side to install the full body scanners so that nobody does mischief in future. This would ensure that trade activities go on," said Hilal Ahmad Turki, General Secretary, Salamabad-Chakoti Trade Union. Asif Lone, Chairman Salamabad-Chakoti Trade Union said that Governments of India and Pakistan to intervene in this matter so that arrested driver gets a bail and there will be no negative impact on trade in future. Asif said during the meeting it was decided that there will be complete checking before any truck is allowed to enter on either side of LoC. It would be in place to mention here that on January 17 security agencies seized narcotics worth 100 crore from a truck driver Mohammad Shafiq Awan at Salamabad-Uri, which was on its way to India and led to the stalling of trade activities between the traders on either side of LoC. The driver of the truck, hailing from other side of LoC was detained by police. |
