| Business School, Police Department win matches | | First Police Friendship Cricket Tourney, 2007 | |
JAMMU | April 2 The Business School, JU and Police Department won their respective matches and entered the next round of the ongoing First Police Friendship Cricket Tournament being played at Hostels ground in GGM Science College here today. In the first match played here, Business School, JU defeated the Geography Department by 88 runs and entered the next round. Business School won the toss and decided to bat first. While batting, they scored 133 runs for the loss of four wickets in allotted 15 overs match. While chasing the target of 134 runs, Geography Department was bowled out at 45 runs in 11.1 overs and lost the match by 88 runs. Wicket-keeper batsman Gourav scored 15 runs, stumped three batsmen and took one brilliant catch and got the man of match award. R.L Sharma, Principal of MAM College was the chief guest in the match and Vijay Kotwal, Principal, GGM Science College was the guest of honour and he distributed the prizes among the winning team. The second match was played between ASCOMS and Police Department in which the latter won the toss and elected to bat first. The players of Police department played well and piled up 141 runs for the loss of six wickets in allotted 20 overs game. ACOMS team while chasing the target, could only manage 73 runs in 13.4 overs and lost the match by 68 runs. With this victory, Police Department will now clash with MIER College in the next round. Jatinder Raina of Police Department was declared man of the match for scoring 19 runs and took two wickets. Anil Mangotra, Sr. Prosecuting Officer of Vigilance Department was the guest of honour in the match and while speaking he emphasized on the friendly role of the Police department and step taken forward for the conduct of such like tournament. In tomorrow’s matches, B.P. Ed Department, JU will clash with MCA, JU and Police Department will play against MIER College.
