| Last rites of Martyr Malik performed with full Military honours | | | Jammu April 2 The last rites of L/NK Ravinder Singh Malik of 159 Infantry Batallion of Army (Home and Hearth) who attained martyrdom while giving a tough fight to militants killing two of them in an encounter at Kuchhal area aof Chatrru in Kishtwar district, yesterday, were performed with full military honours at his native village Chattru this afternoon. Wreaths on behalf of Chief of the Army Staff and General Officer Commanding Counter Intelligence Force were laid on the mortal remains of the L/NK Malik. The military funeral ceremony was well attended by a number of senior Army officials, various civil signatories and prominent citizens of the area. Malik sacrificed his life while fighting militants who fired upon from Army troops in wee hours yesterday. Giving details an Army spokesman said that based on information about presence of terrorists in a hide out in Kuchhal area, troops of 11 RR launched an operation in early hours yesterday. During the operation, where the terrorists were relentlessly firing on the troops, L/NK Ravinder Singh Malik posted with RR displayed unflinching courage and conspicuous gallantry under heavy hostile fire and shot dead two hardcore HM militants. In the encounter, Malik was injured due to the terrorists’ fire and later succumbed to his injuries. |
