| LASHKAR MILITANT KILLED IN DODA | | | Jammu, August 04: One soldier and one militant were killed in a fierce gun battle at Doda early this morning. Four soldiers were also injured in a 10 hour encounter. Police sources said that on a tip off a joint team of army and police cordoned off a house in Wani Mohalla in Gondna for flushing out a group of militants hiding in the house. As soon as the security forces neared the house militants opened fire killing one soldier on the spot. The security forces retaliated killing one militant Abu Zubaid said to be Lashkar operative. During the exchange of fire, which lasted several hours, the house was badly damaged. Additional security forces were rushed to the spot and after the militant’s gun fell silent troops and police launched search operations in the entire vicinity. Till the filing of the report, no militant was apprehended and according to unofficial reports at least eight militants were hiding in the house indicating the remaining seven might have managed to escape. Reports from Doda said that additional companies of police and army had been deployed in Doda, Kishtwar and Bhaderwah towns in view of the ensuing Independence day celebrations. Instructions have been given to the security forces to intensify their patrolling so that militants were not in a position to cause any disruptions ahead of Independence day celebrations. |
