Early Times Report

Jammu, Mar 6: After the public outrage and agitation over bid to change the name of historical places of Jammu and tried to change the name of Bahu Fort, the Birth place of Dogras, to 'Shahabad' in newly inaugurated Cable Car Project., the tourism department finally clarified that the name of the cable car project is Peer Kho to Bahu Fort. As soon as the news speared, the Bahu Fort Development Committee (BDFC), the frontier organization which spearheaded the movement against government deliberate move celebrated its win over the agitation. Hundred of BFDC volunteers and locals of the area under the leadership its president Rajeev Charak assembled at Pacca Talab and distribute sweets among each other for winning the agitation and restoring the historical glory of heritage site of Jammu. Addressing the gathering, Rajeev Charak thanked all the social activists, political parties and particularly J&K High Court Bar Association for extending support to the demand of BFDC and forced the administration to take their earlier decision back. He said that on the behest of some Kashmir centric policy, the government deliberately tried to change the cultural heritage of Jammu by changing names of historical places but this time people of Jammu stand united and defeat the nefarious designing of sick administration. Pertinently, On February 24, Chief Minster Omar Abdullah inaugurated Jammu Ropeway project in Bahu Fort area , which mentioned the name of Bahu Fort as Sahabad , the BFDC spearheaded the agitation against state government from the same day.
