| SDH Mendhar sans docs, basic facilities | | | Early Times Report Mendhar (Poonch), Mar 6: Lack of facilities, shortage of staff and unavailability of essential equipment at Sub District Hospital (SDH) bleaks the hope of the hundreds of patients visiting the hospital daily with different health ailments with a hope that once they get Not only people from twin cities of, but also from different cities visit the hospital and have to wait for hours to meet the doctor, as the number of patients is increasing, but the hospital staff remains the same particularly the specialist and assistant surgeons as these major posts in a health sector are still lying vacant . If sources are to be believed of the total 329 post of different categories 79 post s still lying vacant and are taking toll of the health of Sub District Hospital (SDH)- Mendhar which caters the health services to a populace of over one lakh. Sources said, "what ails the most is the three posts of 'specialist doctors that still are vacant against sanctioned five posts while 24 post of Assistant Surgeon (Medical Officers) against sanctioned 30 posts are lying vacant.' "While the rest of the post including Dental Surgeon five vacant against eight, five CHOs (Community Health Officers) out of seven , two Health Educators (HEs) out of seven and etc are also taking toll of the tall claims of state government for extending health services at the door steps of people living in far remote areas, sources said. According to sources from Mendhar, not only the medicos (doctors) posts but the inadequate staff of technical/ allied staff too is speaking on the health of healthcare as against sanctioned two post of Sanitary Inspector one still lying vacant, against sanctioned Jr Lab technician Seven three lying vacant, against sanctioned six posts of Jr Assistant, astonishingly five still are lying vacant and etc." "Five posts of drivers are vacant against sanctioned 10 posts and this is what is compounding the problems of bringing healthcare back to track as it becomes troublesome whenever the authorities have to shift a patient to District Hospital or Govt medical College & Hospital (GMC&H) in emergency cases, sources lamented. They said that it is difficult for the hospital staff to treat the huge number of patients in a day. "To deal with such a huge amount of patients every day, the hospital requires more female staff and modern equipment - which, unfortunately, the hospital lacks all facilities what a visitors expects to get at this major health care institution in hilly locality of Mendhar and its surroundings, sources said. A faculty member on promised anonymity told that sometimes behaviour of staff too turns irresponsible due to undue pressure upon them. "We are already facing many financial problems due to various diseases associated with life style and terrain and such non-cooperation by staff enhances our troubles manifold," said Mudassir an attendant of a patient visiting to SDH Mendhar. "Due to the lack of proper medical facilities at the Civil Hospital here, residents of this town have no option but to go for diagnostic tests and treatment in private clinics or to District Hospital (DH)Poonch, a hospital staffer said adding, " the hospital does not have a pediatrician, dermatologist, ophthalmologist, and other specialised physician thus patients have to go to DH Poonch which is far away from their homes. "This not only puts financial burden but also add to mental trauma to patient and attandents as well, he said. "Due to lack of emergency facilities victims of vehicular accidents on the national highway are invariably referred to DH Poonch which at times turns fatal especially during 'golden hour' which is vital for the savior of the critical patients," he added. |
