Srinagar, Mar 6: A local court here today denied bail to two persons, who had been arrested for allegedly carrying about five kilograms of charas in Srinagar. The accused, Fayaz Ahmad Kalo of Narabal and Farooq Ahmad Bhat of Pattan were arrested by police for carrying 2.5 kg and 2.150kg charas respectively. Subsequently, an FIR (15/2014) under section 8/20 Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act was registered against them with police station Parimpora. In their bail application before the court of 1st Additional Sessions Judge Srinagar Subash Chandra Gupta, the accused had claimed that they were innocent and falsely implicated by the police. However, prosecution resisted the bail asserting that the offense committed by them is serious, non-bailable and against the society at large. "Sufficient evidence has been collected by the investigating officer so far for believing that they are guilty of the commission of the offences for which they have been booked," the court said, adding "Offences under NDPS Act are serious and grave in nature. Those are against the society at large." Subsequently, the court rejected the bail to the accused stating that they are not entitled to it. "I am of the considered opinion that petitioners are not entitled to bail, at this stage, as such, refused," the court said. |
