| Quake rumour spreads panic in Poonch | | | Jammu, Apr 3 While the powerful earthquake whose epicenter was in Hindukush mountains today did not do much damage in Jammu and Kashmir, but it managed to remind the people of the devastation which occurred on 8th October, 2005. People in many parts of the state particularly in Poonch, Uri and Baramulla waited in trepidation as the rumours flew thick and fast that more tremors are in the waiting. Poonch town which had suffered massive damage in 2005, witnessed a large number of people moving in the parks and open areas as rumours said that another quake would strike at 12.30 in the afternoon. A number of people were seen in temples, mosques and Gurudwaras praying for safety and security. Earlier, panic spread in the morning when telephone poles and trees were rattled due to tremors. The earthquake measuring 6.4 on the recter scale was felt in Islamabad, Lahore, Peshawer and surrounding areas of NWFP and Pakistan occupied in Kashmir. However, no loss of life or property was reported. The tremors were also felt as far as New Delhi and Afghan capital of Kabul.
