| Electric Inspector sentenced to two years’ RI | | | Jammu April 03 Mohammed. Akbar Wani, the then Electric Inspector, Tulmula Ganderbal, was convicted to two years Rigorous Imprisonment and a fine of Rs.1000 by Court of Special Judge Anti-Corruption, Kashmir, for accepting a bribe of Rs.500 from owner of a rice husking mill for restoration of electric connection to his mill. In default of payment of fine, the convict will have to undergo another one month of simple imprisonment. A Vigilance spokesman said that on January 16 1987, one Ghulam Ahmad Bhat S/o Ghulam Rasool Bhat R/o Chondana, Ganderbal, lodged a written complaint with Police Station Vigilance Organization, Kashmir, alleging therein that accused Mohammed. Akbar Wani, the then Electric Inspector of the area got disconnected electric connection of his rice husking mill. When the complainant approached the accused official for restoration of the electric connection to the consumer, he initially demanded an illegal gratification of Rs.3200 but on persuasion finally agreed for Rs.1000, of which Rs.500 was paid to the accused official on January 13, 1987 as first installment. Acting on the complaint Vigilance Organization registered a case FIR No. 2/1987 P/S VOK and took up the investigation. During the course of investigation, the officials of SVO laid a successful trap and caught red handed the accused Mohammed Akbar Wani, while accepting bribe of Rs.500 from the complainant. The tainted money was recovered from the possession of the accused in presence of independent witnesses. The challan of the case was produced in the Court of law on April 19, 1988.and the accused was convicted to two years RI with a fine of Rs.1, 000.
