| Raina Colony residents threatens to boycott LS, Assembly polls | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Mar 14 : The residents of Raina Colony Babliana Jammu today threatened to launch a protest demonstration and boycott the upcoming general and assembly elections, if the authorities continue to neglect their genuine demands. Despite several assurances by various ministers, the colony lacks most of the basic amenities, including roads, drainage and electric poles. While the politicians have provided all the basic facilities of many illegal colonies set up in Jammu just to garner their vote bank, but a legitimate colony has been neglected because of the reasons better known to these politicians. "This is one amongst the few well planned colonies where in provision of wide inroads, drainage has been kept, but the government has failed to develop the colony" Manish Kumar President of the Raina Colony Residents Association said. The absence of a proper drainage system leaves the entire colony inundated just after a few hours of rain causing a huge problem for the residents. "School children are the worst suffers as many of them were injured when they slipped due to the mud caused by the rain" Kumar said. "Come summer and it could result into a pandemic as the waste water coming out of households which forms a cesspool on the roads would become a breading place for mosquitoes and other diseases," said Balbir Singh a doctor and a resident of Raina colony. The residents have appealed the authorities concerned to take immediate steps to mitigate the problems faced by the residents of the colony otherwise more than 500 families living in the colony would be left with no other option but to launch an agitation which can include boycotting the upcoming general and assembly elections. |
