JAMMU, Mar 14: Customs and Excise clinched the team championship outplaying Indian Institute of Integrated Medicine (IIIM) 3-2 in the final of the Table Tennis Tournament, organised by the Central Government Employees Welfare Coordination Committee (CGEWCC) at Indoor Complex, MA Stadium, here today.
Former national ranking player from Punjab, Ramakant played a key role in Customs triumph winning both of his matches in the best of five final. The Results: Ramakant bt Naresh Joshi 11-06, 11-07; Abhishek lost to Mahesh Sharma 07-11, 09-11; Ashok Bodh lost to Vikram Abrol 05-11, 06-11; Abhishek bt Naresh Joshi 11-04, 11-05; Ramakant bt Mahesh Sharma 11-05, 11-06.
Earlier, in the semifinal, Customs and Excise outplayed Survey of India (SOI)-A 2-0. The Results: Ramakant bt Shashi Jamwal 11-05, 11-06; Ashok Bodh bt Col. Amardeep Singh 11-09, 11-08.
In other semifinal, IIII trounced Principal Accountant General (PAG) 2-0. The Results: Vikram Abrol bt Madan lal 11-07, 11-09; Mahesh Sharma bt Sanjay Sharma 11-09, 13--12. Quarterfinals: IIIM bt Income Tax 2-0; PAG bt Customs and Excise-B; SOI-A bt SOI-B.
Meanwhile, in the open singles event, Ramakant of Customs and Excise bagged the title trophy beating Mahesh Sharma of National Sample Survey Organisation (NSSO) in straight sets of 11-04, 11-06.
In the semifinals, Ramakant outplayed Sanjay Sharma of PAG 11-06, 11-07 while Mahesh downed Vikram Abrol of IIIM 11-07, 11-05.
