Early Times Report

Baramulla, Mar 15: Curfew like restrictions remained in force on Saturday at many places in North Kashmir following the killing of a student in police firing at Naidkhai-Bandipora on Friday evening. Meanwhile district authorities in Bandipora reportedly clamped curfew in some areas of the district to maintain law and order.
Reports said that strict restrictions were imposed under section 144 in various parts of North Kashmir's Bandipora, Baramulla and Kupwara districts including Naidkhai, Sopore and Palhallan.
"Hundreds of people mainly youth took to streets amid sloganeering at Palhallan, Pattan, Hygam, Putkhah, Sangrama, Model Town and Warpora in Sopore and other areas, reports said. The protesters engaged the CRPF troops and police in stone pelting. Police fired several tear smoke shells in air to quell the demonstrators.
"On Saturday morning authorities in Bandipora district announced that curfew was imposed in Naidkhai, Hajin, Shahgund, Markundal, Sumbal, Safapora, Ajas and some other areas of the district to maintain law and order," official sources said.
Sources said, "Restrictions on the movement of people were too strict in areas falling under the jurisdiction of police stations of Sumbal, Naidkhai and other adjoining areas.'
It would be in place to mention here that Deputy Commissioner Bandipora Dr Shah Faesal has ordered magisterial probe into the incident and police has also registered an FIR under section 302 RPC and started investigation of the matter.
As the situation remained tense in Baramulla district, the traffic and pedestrian movement was thin due to large contingents of Police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in old town areas.
Although, deployments of police and the CRPF in full riot gear has been made on all the bridges of Baramulla town which connects Azadgunj, Stadium Colony, Drangbal and Ganai Hamam areas with rest of the main market, no restrictions were imposed in these areas on pedestrian or vehicular movement.
Meanwhile shops, public transport and other business establishments, remained closed in Sopore town on Saturday. Police sources said the situation is under control throughout the district and no untoward incident was reported from anywhere in North Kashmir.
