Srinagar, Mar 15 : The upper reaches, including world famous ski resort of Gulmarg experienced fresh snowfall in the Kashmir valley, where plains hadrains today, resulting in further chill during the day.The summer capital, Srinagar, and other plain areas in the valley had rain resulting in drop in the temperature. Gulmarg, which has received more than three feet of snowfall early this week, experienced fresh snowfall today. Few inches of snow had accumulated on the slopes, a hotel owner said over phone. He said the upper reaches, including Kongdori, Affarwat and Khilanmarg also received light to moderate snowfall since early this morning.The upper heights in the north Kashmir, including areas near the Line of Control (LoC) which are cut off from their respective district headquarters, also received fresh snowfall since this morning. The sky was cloudy at Pahalgam, a health resort in south Kashmir, where the upper reaches, including Sheshnag, Mahaguns, Panjterni, Pisso top and Chandanwari also received fresh snowfall. Heavy snowfall was also received at holy Amarnath cave shrine and its periphery, reports said. A Met department spokesman said here this afternoon that moderate to rather heavy rain or snow would occur at many places over Kashmir and Jammu divisions and few places in Ladakh region during the next 24 hours. There would be increase in rainfall activities during subsequent two days, he said and warned that heavy rain or snow accompanied by hail storm is likely at isolated places during the next 48 hours. |
