Jammu, Mar 14 : Notwithstanding Health Minister, Taj Mohiuddin's claim on better performance of the NC led Government in handling proble created by heavy snowfall and rain in the Kashmir valley, senior functionaries of the Congress and the National Conference voice their concern over the failure of the Government in tackling waterlogging, impact of snow on road connectivity and electricity crisis. Even NC Rajya Sabha member,Ghulam Nabi Rattanpuri, has berated the Government for its failure to tackle various proble created by heavy snowfall. The PCC Chief, Saif-ud-Din Soz too has stated that people had to suffer various ordeals because of waterlogging, electricity crisis and damage to a large number of houses. Political observers say that the failure of the Government in keeping the action plan ready for meeting any challenge from late snowfall could be yet another addition to the anti-incumbency factor that could harm the ruling coalition during the ensuing Lok Sabha election. According to these observers, misgovernance, growing level of corruption, various sca, failure of the Government in tackling the problem of unemployment, acute power shortage and misutilisation of funds earmarked for various development projects have brought the ruling coalition of NC and the Congress under the heavy burden of anti-incumbency factor. These observers said that the only way the NC and the Congress ruling coalition can stem the rot if the Government agency is pressed into service for assessing damage to private houses, orchards and other property so that the Government paid the compensation without any delay. The NC leadership has suggested to the Congress leaders to approach the Government of India with a request that it made available some additional funds that could be utilized on providing compensation to those who suffered severe losses owing to snow, waterlogging and rain. The NC leadership believes that immediate disbursement of compensation to people affected by snow and waterlogging could help the ruling coalition to secure support of voters to their candidates contesting the Lok Sabha and later the Assembly elections. |
