| Govt fails to address refugees issue: Gandhi | | | Early Times Report
KATHUA, Mar 16: Alleging that all the state regimes till date have failed to address the issues of refugees, the Chairman of West Pakistan Refugee Action Committee Labba Ram Gandhi said that since independence the refugees are taken for granted by National Conference, Congress, Peoples' Democratic and Bharatiya Janta Party. Labba Ram Gandhi was addressing the West Pakistani Refugees at Shaheed Bhagat Singh Park during the monthly meeting here today. As far as the elections concern, they cannot participate in Assembly and Local Bodies election and political parties do not pay much attention to them. However, during Parliamentary elections every party tries to approach them for acquiring votes. This time their committee has decided to contest Parliamentary election of own. From Jammu-Poonch seat, he himself would contest and sooner the candidate from Kathua-Doda-Udhampur would finalize. Miffed over the dilly-delaying attitude of the political parties Labba Ram Gandhi said over 1.5 lakh West Pakistan refugees, who do not have fundamental and citizenship rights in J&K, play a crucial role in the two Lok Sabha seats of the Jammu province. During every parliamentary election, all parties approach them for their votes but after the election, they are left high and dry. |
