| Democracy Rafting c’ship launched in Chenab | | | Early Times Report
Reasi, Mar 16: District Administration today launched the "Electoral Democracy Championship-2014" aimed at eliciting greater response of youth in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections under Systematic Voters Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) Plan. Volunteers and local youth from Reasi have been engaged for this innovative initiative for making electoral participation a way of life. The rafting championship was flagged off by Deputy Commissioner in presence of senior officers of district administration, prominent citizens and various youth groups. Addl DC Rajinder Singh Tara, ACR Tilak Raj Sharma and other officers lead the group of rafts from baradari to dera baba point. On the way the youth halted at various places to interact with residents and administered the pledge for ethical informed voting and active participation. Posters and pamphlets on ethical voting were also displayed and distributed. A programme to celebrate Holi as electoral participation pledge event was also organized at the district headquarter. Rangoli depicting the Electronic Voting Machine and Parliament was also organised. Addl DC Rajinder Singh Tara and ACR Tilak Raj Sharma while accompanying the rafters during the championship visited various area on the way and also thanked the youth groups to extend active cooperation to district administration for organising these events and overwhelming participation. They said that initiatives like "Green Vote" plantation drive, "Blood Donation for Democracy", "Jai Kissan, Jai Hindustan" for farmers' awareness and other plans are a testimony of greater youth participation in urban and rural areas.
