| J&K to receive rain, snow in next 48 hrs | | | Early Times report
Srinagar, Mar 16 : Due to western disturbance the Jammu and Kashmir would witness rain and snow in the next 48 hours following the warning issued by Meteorological department. There was, however, further improvement in the minimum temperature and weather was also dry in the valley. Meanwhile, in order to face the predicted heavy snowfall in the valley and to ensure the availability of all essentials services, the divisional commissioner Kashmir, Shailendra Kumar said the administration has geared up all men and machinery to face the challenge.A Met department spokesman said there would be increase in the rainfall activity in the subsequent four days. However, he warned heavy to very heavy rain or snow and thundershowers accompanied by hailstorm likely at isolated places in the next 48 hours. After further improvement in the night temperature, sun was playing hide and seek in the Kashmir valley. At world famous ski resort of Gulmarg, after receiving fresh snowfall yesterday, recorded minus 0.6 degree minimum temperature, four notches above normal.Similarly, at Pahalgam the night temperature was 0.4 degree, two degree above normal.The water level in the water bodies, including Lidder has increased with the melting of stone on higher reaches.The summer capital, Srinagar also witnessed increase in the temperature. Against yesterdays 2.2 degree, the minimum temperature was 2.7 degree, slightly below normal. At Qazigund the night temperature was 0.8 degree against minus 0.8 degree recorded yesterday, Kupwara 2.2 degree and Kokernag 0.6 degree. |
