| Inclement weather: Many localities in Budgam still 'powerless' | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Mar 15: After heavy snowfall in recent days in Kashmir valley many areas in Central Kashmir's Budgam district are 'powerless' and without basic amentias. The darkness due to power interruption is haunting people who still are looking towards authorities for remedial measures. According to local reports the agitated locals of these villages have criticized the Power Development Department (PDD) for its failure in providing the electricity in this critical time. They said the field staff makes appearance only when poles and wires fall on ground oor on festive occasion. The locals of some of these powerless villages while sharing their views with 'Early Times' said the recent snowfall must open the eyes of the government and that of the PDD in particular. They said the work of PDD is full of challenges and as such they should accept these challenges and come out successful. Villages like Sozeith, Chaki Ishar Das, Aarath, Russu, Chattabugh, Wahabpora and adjacent localities alleged that they have to bear the brunt of the breakdown whenever the power goes off. "Transmission lines in their villages have been laid long before and now are old and worn out causing more trouble instead of giving respite,' people complained."These wires easily get damaged by the snowfall, they lamented and added, "it results making people to suffer throughout the year especially in winter." People of these villages accuse the PDD of having no plan to repair the broken lines permanently so that service is rendered without frequent snaps. They said that eight months are enough for the PDD to prepare itself for the winters adding that still then the department is ill-prepared as and when heavy snowfall occurs during the winter season. People say that the inefficiency of the department leads the people to miseries. Agitated locals further maintained that rued the department higher ups should be active during the summer and make all required arrangement in that season that coming events cause their shadows before. They point out that ants enjoy their winter leisurely because of their hard work during summers. "Prior planning will reduce the level of damage and it of no use make statements from the outside that the department is doing its best to bring the situation to its normal position," said the headman of a village. He added that it is the shear negligence of the department which the people suffer. "They must accept these challenges so that they may be able to discharge their duties responsibly. The repairs and replacement of the poles, towers, and transmission lines should be in full swing once the spring sets in. Since electricity comes under essential services category, no compromise can be made," said some villagers. |
