| Extension of tourism package to Jammu region sought | | | Jammu, April 4 Hoteliers, bars, restaurants and lodges owners of Jammu have demanded extension of all the packages of incentives granted by the Central and State governments to the tourism industry in Jammu region as well as has been extended to Kashmir Valley. They have alleged that hotels, lodges, restaurants and other tourism related trades in Jammu have been deprived of all the packages of relief and incentives for the revival and up gradation of their units which have suffered deep recession during last two decades of militancy in the State.. These demands were put up in a joint representation presented by Jammu Prayatan Vikas Mandal, All Jammu Hotels and Lodges Association and Jammu Hotel, Bar and Restaurant Association to Tourism Minister Tourism Mohammed Dilawar Mir in an interactive session held by the representatives of these organizations with him here last night. Presenting the case of tourism related trade organizations before the Minister, Inderjeet Khajuria, President AJHLA and General Secretary Jammu Prayatan Vikas Mandal also demanded that SRO 72 of 1995, under which tourism has been declared as industry should be duly amended, so that the negative list for entitlement of benefits as available to industrial units, be deleted. Under the said SRO the cities of Jammu, Srinagar and towns of Katra, Pahalgam and Gulmarg are kept in the negative list and thus deprived of the benefits available to the tourism industry as per the SRO. He also demanded extension of the validity of the above SRO which has expired in ending 2005. The Tourism Minister, who was accompanied in the interaction session by Secretary Tourism Nayeem Akhtar, Director Tourism Jammu Ajay Khajuria, MD J&K TDC, Wani, informed the representatives of the organization that their demands are already under active consideration and decision will be taken soon. Among others, who took part in the interaction, included H S Anand President Hotel, Restaurant and Bar Association, Ravi Mahajan Chairman Jammu Prayatan Vikas Mandal, Kuldeep Vahi President JPVM, Pawan Gupta General Secretary AJHLA, Sheikhar Mahajan, M.D. Hotel K C Residency, C P Gupta M.D.Hotel Fortune Riveria, Sunil Suri Secretary, Baldev Treasure and Ashiq Husain M.D Taj Hotel. The representation also demanded creation of artificial lake in river Tawi, early execution of the announced projects of Heritage Center in Mubarak Mandi, laying of rope way from Mubarak Mandi to Bahu Fort and Maha Maya hill top, setting up of aquarium in Bagh-e-Bahu and extension of Manda Wild Life Sanctuary. The up gradation of environment park and city forest on Jammu Bye pass was also demanded.
