| Qazi directs for action against absentee officials | | | Jammu, Apr 4 To curb the menace of timber smuggling in the state, Minister for Forests, Housing and Urban Development Qazi Mohammad Afzal has issued strict instructions to the enforcement wing of Forest Department to bring timber smuggling to zero level. Qazi Afzal while paying surprise visit of Forest Check Post at Hiranagar today, said that all the check posts existing adjacent to forests would be strengthened and people involved to cooperate with enforcement wing of the forest department to discourage the timber smugglers and ensured preservation of the green wealth. He asked the enforcement functionaries of the State Forest Corporation (SFC) well Forest Department to be more vigilant and harsh towards timber smugglers. He said that the people of the state have an imperative role in conservation of forests and promotion of afore-station not only to ensure pollution free environment but keep the demand of future generations in mind. Taking strong note of unauthorized absence of some employees at Forest Check post Hiranagar, Qazi directed for immediate action and transfer against the absentees. He said that negligence of the employees at forest check posts is dereliction of duty which encourages timber smuggling. The Minister also directed the senior officers to make available timber to consumers as per rates existing before 31st March 2007. He also called for adequate stocking of timber at all sale depots to facilitate consumers. Managing Director SFC, Mr. Aijaz Ahmad Khan, Chief Conservator of Forests Mr. Abay Kumar, Mr. Manoj Panth who were accompanied the Minister.
