Giving details about the seizure of the arms and ammunition, a defence spokesman said that a joint operation was launched today by Army and Jammu & Kashmir Police. The spokesman said that the operation resulted in the busting of a militant hideout in Rafiabad, North Kashmir wherein a huge quantity of arms and ammunition was recovered along with other war like stores. "Based on a specific intelligence input regarding location of a militant hideout in Tangmula forest of Rafiabad, a joint operation by a Rashtriya Rifles unit of Army and Jammu & Kashmir Police was launched today at around 9:30 AM. The Deputy Superintendent of Police of Rafiabad also accompanied the troops," said the defence spokesman. The defence spokesman said that during the search, a huge quantity of arms and ammunition were recovered. These include one AK-47 rifle, one AK-56 Rifle with four magazines and 90 rounds of ammunition. One Disposal Rocket Launcher with two rockets and three Chinese grenades, seven detonators, one Nokia Mobile set along with other war like stores were recovered from the hideout. "Two hideouts were busted few days ago one at Shok Baba forest of Bapura, District Bandipora and the other at village Chandusa of district Baramulla. Large cache of weapons and ammunition was recovered by the vigilant troops from these hideouts. These recoveries will serve as a major blow to the militants," said the defence spokesman. It would be in place to mention here that a group of gunmen fired upon the Road Opening Party (ROP) of army at Palhallan in the Pattan area of North Kashmir's Baramulla district on Saturday. However, no one was injured in the firing incident while as militants left behind a rifle. Army recovered the AK-47 Rifle, along with magazine and ammunition. Pertinently security forces have tasted great success in their anti-militancy operations across the length and breadth of state. Around two dozen militants including some top commanders have been killed in encounters with security forces with the most of encounters taking place in the North Kashmir. Police and security forces are maintaining vigil across the state without taking any chance on the security front more so with elections for Lok Sabha round the corner. They also apprehend increase in the infiltration bids as snow starts to melt on higher reaches and mountain passes. |
