| Coalition shelved my schemes for KPs rehabilitation: Mufti | | `No bullet fired from Kathua to Kargil during PDP rule' | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Mar 30: Accusing the NC-Congress coalition of shelving all the schemes launched by his Government for the rehabilitation of Kashmiri migrants back in Valley, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) patron and former Chief Minister Mufti Mohammed Sayeed today reiterated that return of migrants to Valley was must for restoration of composite culture. Addressing a programme organized by PDP's migrant wing here today, Mufti Sayeed took the coalition Government to task for shelving the schemes launched by previous PDP Government for rehabilitation of migrants in Valley. He said secularism has been the hallmark of PDP and his Party has always stood for nurturing this character. He said construction of quarters at Sheikhpora, in Budgam district, Mattan in Anantnag district and Tulmulla in Ganderbal district was started by his Government with the same motive and there was a proposal to construction townships at Harnag Anantnag and Baramulla also for rehabilitation of displaced Pandits but this was thwarted by his successors and instead they constructed a township at Jammu. Instead of constructing the township at Jammu had Government been sincere on return of Pandits it could have constructed one in Kashmir Valley as well as was proposed by PDP too, he added. Recalling the roll of Kashmiri Pandits Mufti Sayeed said the community has produced great teachers and his teacher and guide was also a Kashmiri Pandit. He said the contribution of Pandits in nurturing the composite culture of the Valley can't be forgotten. He also highlighted the role of some Kashmiri Pandit leaders and freedom fighters that championed the cause of secularism in the State and worked throughout their lives to strengthen the bonds of secularism. Among them he quoted the names of Kashyap Bandoo, Shiv Narayan Fotedar, D P Dhar, Man Kak (Manohar Nath Koul) etc. Terming India a great democracy, Mufti said that unlike China and Russian the democracy has flourished in India over the years and it has created a place at the international level for it. He said the Kashmir crisis need to be solved with open mind as no one should finger towards us. He said the main problem in Kashmir is that there is a trust deficit and his Government worked towards resolving this deficit but the successive governments failed to work in this regard. Mufti Mohammed Sayeed during his Government always tried to do justice to all three regions of the State including Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh. The State can only progress when people of all three regions work shoulder to shoulder. He said it was he who took the initiative for renovation of holy shrine of Kheer Bhawani and the pilgrimage started there. Reiterating that the Kashmir situation can't be solved on barrel of gun, he said he told this to former Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee, senior BJP leader L K Advani and Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh that a firm policy needs to be adopted in changing situation in Kashmir. He said during his Govt no bullet was fired from Kathua to Kargil. But some short sighted people did not allow the boat touch the shore and settle the issue once for all, he added. The PDP leader asked the people to vote his Party candidates in both Parliamentary and Assembly elections in the State for overall betterment and development of the State. The function was organized by Migrant Cell of BJP led by Ashok Sidha and Ramesh Kaul. |
