| Wakhloo chairs HC meeting | | | Jammu, Apr 4 House Committee constituted by Speaker to look into the issue of appointments made and works executed without observing codal formalities in various departments since 1996, held its meeting here today with MLA Mrs. Khem Lata Wakhloo in chair. In today’s meeting the Committee interacted with the officers of Public Health Engineering Department and held threadbare discussion on the issues relating to the subject. MLA Akhnoor Mr. Sham Lal Sharma raised the issue of disparity of payment to the casual labour engaged and sought to know the criteria adopted for making such engagements. He pleaded that there should be uniformity in the honorarium to all. Mr M.Y.Tarigami said that there should be a transparent mechanism and proper norms for engaging casual labours and proper justice should be done to all segments of society. He said that concerned MLA should be taken into confidence while making such engagements and only local candidates should be considered for the job. The officers explained the reasons for engaging the manpower and execution of works without inviting tenders. They apprised the Committee that manpower is required for making the new water supply schemes functional, hence a number of candidates have been engaged as casual labours in various divisions. Similarly, the works of emergent nature are being executed without inviting tenders. The discussion remained inconclusive and Members sought some more information on the subject. The information would be made available to the Committee at the earliest. Those present in the meeting included legislators, Mr. Ashwani Kumar Sharma, Mr. M.Y. Shah, Mrs. Shanti Devi, Mr. G.M.Jan, Mr. Jugal Kishore Sharma, Mr. Sharif-ud-Din Shariq, Mr. Sajjad Ahmed Kichloo and Additional Secretary Assembly Mr. Mohammad Ramzan.
