| 150 new buses to be added to SRTC fleet: Hakeem | | | Jammu, Apr 5 Government has decided to purchase 150 new buses costing Rs. 15 crore for State Road Transport Corporation (SRTC) so that corporation is revitalized to cater the public demands and make cooperation good leap towards betterment. This was stated by the Minister for Transport Hakim Mohammad Yaseen here today at a high level officers meeting, called to take stock of the various matters pertaining to transport sector. Hakeem Yaseen said that the new buses would also be operated in the hilly and in accident prone areas like Rajouri, Poonch, Doda and other places in the state. He said various measures are under way to make the corporation profitable and extended its service to more villages and areas. He directed the authorities to fix modalities with a NGO who is offering vehicles to SRTC on rent. Mr. Yaseen directed the MD State Road Transport Corporation (SRTC) Mr. G.N. Sofi to sort out the problems of striking employees in Srinagar. He said Government is taking necessary steps to release COLA and pending salaries of the SRTC employees adding that required funds are being arranged to meet out the demands of the employees. He directed the concerned authorities to expedite the process for utilization of State Road Transport Corporation (SRTC) assets. The Minister directed the Transport Commissioner to submit a detailed report with regard to the engagement of drivers made in the State Road Transport Corporation (SRTC) during last four years. Commissioner Secretary Transport Mr. Devender Nargotra, MD SRTC G.N. Sofi, General Manager SRTC Mr. Y. Koul and other senior officer of the transport and its line departments attended the meeting.
