| CBI Inquiry over Lone’s killing | | |

By demanding a CBI probe in to the alleged political killing of his father Dr Ghulam Nabi Lone, his son, an independent MLA from Sangrama constituency Shoaib Lone has once again frightened top PDP leadership fuelling speculations in higher echelons of power that in the days to come the issue would once again take centre stage and may become root cause of bickering within the coalition partners.
Ironically, the most uncomforting factor which is keeping top PDP brass on tenterhooks is the proximity of state congress leaders with Shoaib Lone.
Many senior PDP leaders privy to incidents preceeding mysterious killing of DrLone ahead of change of guard here in the state in the month of October fear that Lone could be utilized by the political foes as a tool to embarrass top PDP leadership in the days to come.
A senior PDP leader talking on the condition of annoymity said here on Thursday, the timing of the demand for setting up CBI inquiry by Shoaib Lone is going to create fresh trouble for the coalition partners.He said it is no political secret that PDP leadership feel uncomfortable everytime the issue of alleged political killing of Dr Lone takes centre stage.An inquiry report constituted by the state govt had also attributed serious security lapses as one of the reasons Dr Lone's killers managed to enter his drawing room and later fled after killing him from high security area.
It may be mentioned that before DrLone was killed by unidentified gunmen inside his drawing room in Srinagar he was labeled as rebel by the top PDP leadership.Lone was largely seen in the party as one among those held him responsible for engineering a revolt within PDP ranks opposing continuation of Mufti Mohd Sayeed in the office of chief Minister.
On Wednesday also when Shoaib Lone addressed press conference few congress workers were seen escorting him to the venue and majority of them stayed till the press briefing was over. When a PDP leader was asked to explain the proximity of Shoaib Lone with congress leaders, he reserved his comments but admitted in private that congress leaders were working ona definite game plan to embarrass PDP leadership with help from Shoaib Lone.
Shoaib Lone during the press conference also maintained that those who killed his father were very powerful people and had high connections. "If they can kill one of their ministers because he revolted against them they can easily kill me to fulfill their agenda,Shoaib told reporters".Meanwhile when a senior congress leader from Kashmir valley was contacted for his comments he declined to share his viewpoint.He however admitted that the truth behind the killing of DrGN Lone should come out and expressed his concern supporting Shoaib Lones demand for setting up CBI inquiry.'He has every right to know the identity of his fathers killer and if required the state govt should take note of his appeal to deliver justice to him",he said.
