| Tributes paid to Jagjivan Ram | | Be enterprising, carve out place of excellence: Sinha to youth | | JAMMU, APR 5 Governor Lt. General (Retd) S K Sinha today exhorted youth to be enterprising and carve out a place of pride for themselves at the strength of hard work, devotion and their inherent talent. Paying tributes to Babu Jagjivan Ram on his birth commentary celebration at Government College for Women, Parade Ground here this evening, the Governor urged youth to inculcate spirit of discipline and be self reliant for achieving excellence in their chosen careers. In this context, he referred to the struggle of Babuji, who braved many odds and rose to the highest pinnacles at the national scene. His grit, hard work and single-mindedness stands testimony to success in life, he said, hoping that youth will emulate him. He also described Babuji as a great administrator who left an indelible mark of his professionalism and depth. His disposal of files is still considered to be par excellence in administrative circles, he added. The Governor remembered his first meeting with Babuji when he had visited his grandfather to seek blessings on being taken on provincial autonomy panel. ‘Second time, I met him in Egypt when he survived an air-crash during his visit before independence as a minister in the interim government’. General Sinha said that he had several interactions with him during 1971 war and he also recalled the offer made by Babuji to be the Colonel of Bihar Regiment as he was the first Major General from the State. General Sinha also referred to Babuji’s crusade against unsociability and social justice. Minister for Health, Mr Mangat Ram Sharma described Babuji as a front-runner Gandhian worker who took part in the freedom struggle along side Gandhiji. He lauded his role as Defence Minister in 1971 when India registered victory over Pakistan in Bangladesh. ‘Shrimati Indira Gandhi was the Prime Minister and she along with Babuji got India the first ever victory after 2500 years’, he added. The Governor presented SAMTA awards to various schools and persons for their distinguished contribution in various fields. On the occasion all religious prayers were held and patriotic songs were rendered by eminent artists. A large number of Gandhian workers, students and teachers attended the function. Gandhian workers from all over the State were present at the function at which rich tributes were paid to Babuji
