3 washed away, 5 school children air lifted, rescued
Chenab, Tawi flowing below danger mark: Abrol

Jammu, August 04 : Air force Jawans today rescued five school children who were trapped in Devik Nallah due to flash flood in Maltian Kolla area of Birpur Mandal of Samba, Jammu.
Informed sources said that at least five school children were trapped in Devik Nallah at Maltian Kolla area of Birpur Mandal after there was flash flood in Ujj Nallah passing through the school.
The local residents informed police about the trapping of the school children in Devik Nallah, who immediately sought the services of Air force for rescuing the children and operation was launched. The students were later air lifted by the choppers of Air force to safer places thus the lives of these students were saved. The children were later identified as Ashwani Kumar S/O Kuldeep Raj, Vivek Sharma S/O Dharam Chand Dewaraka S/O Reshi Ram, Girdhari S/O Bholla Ram and Balvinder Kumar S/O Bindervan all students of Government Middle School Maltian Kolla, Birpur Mandal.
Reports reaching here said that three persons have reportedly been washed away in Nallah near Sanghat Basoli and have been identified as Darshan Kumar Son of Kartar Chand of Banjighat Basoli, Pritam son of Mahant resident of Mandla and Shotu son of Gaokhu resident of Dhar. The dead bodies of Darshan Kumar and pritam were recovered and search for third body was going on.
Authorities have advised people particularly residing near Nallah’s to safety measures while moving through these Nallah’s and suggests to move to safer places.
Meanwhile despite the heavy rains which lashes Jammu there was no immediate threat of flood as river chinab and Tawi were flowing below the danger mark.
“The river chinab and River Tawi are flowing below the danger mark and there is no immediate threat of flood in both the rivers” Chief Engineer Irrigation and flood control V.K.Abrol said, adding that entire administration has been alerted to keep eye on the flow of both the rivers.
He said that in river chinab 31 feet water was recorded and in river Tawi it was 9 feet. The danger mark for chinab is 35 feet’s and for Tawi it is 15 feet. He however said that the flow of river Tawi can go to eleven feet by evening if the rain continues.
