Prestigious Dul Hasti power station starts generation
4/7/2007 11:27:11 PM
Jammu, Apr 07
After a long wait and many hiccups, the prestigious 390 MW Dul Hasti Hydro-Electric Power Station commissioned in mountainous Kishtwar district, at least 270 Kms from here, of Jammu and Kashmir, around mid night last.
Though the power generation was started on trail basis couple of days back, the commercial generation of power started with effect from 00 Hrs today.
Well placed sources in the National Hydroelectric Project Corporation told News Agency of Kashmir that the all the three turbine have started power generation. “The project has officially been commercialized and we have started supplying electricity to Krishanpur Grid near Udhampur in Jammu and Kashmir”, sources said.
The power station was successfully synchronized with the grid in the month of February-March, 2007.
Jatiinder Singh General Manager and Incharge Dul Hasti Power Station along with senior officers were present when the power station was successfully put on commercial generation.
With the synchronization of all the three units a total of 390 MW of power is being sent to Krsishanpur Grid near Udhampur in J&K through two 400 KV, 135 km long, single circuit transmission line.
The completion of this project has been delayed with uncertainty and set backs particularly at the 10.6 km HRT and geological problems of unprecedented nature having been encountered.
It is the second project after Uri Hydro Electric Project, which has been commissioned in Jammu and Kashmir. With the commissioning of the Dul-Hasti project, work on which began in April 1983, the state would get 237 million units of free power costing over Rs.700 million annually.
Constructed on river Chinab, the project was earlier handed over by Jai Parkash Industries and COMELEX to NHPC. The two prestigious construction companies were assigned the task of civil and engineering work of the project.
The under ground 250 meter high Power House was constructed by French Company and is said to be a master piece of Engineering.
The power station would be generating 1928 million units of power annually and Jammu and Kashmir would get 12 per cent of power free under the existing arrangements, sources claimed. The state would thus get an additional 237 million units of free power - alleviating its power crisis to some extent.
It is mandatory for all projects commissioned by the National Hydro Electric Projects Corp (NHPC) to give 12 percent of the power generated as royalty to Jammu and Kashmir.
This hydro-electric power project consists of a diversion dam at ‘Dul’ across the river Chenab and a Power House at ‘Hasti’.
The concrete gravity dam of 185 m length and 65 m height has an ungated spillway of 40 m length and a gated spillway of 64 m length with four radial gates.
The dam has four orifices designed for 8000 cumecs of discharge. Two intake tunnels originate from the intake tower located 150 m upstream of the dam, and lead to desilting basins.
The 10.6 km long headrace tunnel with a drop of 235 m carries the water to the underground power house.
The underground powerhouse accommodates 3 sets of Francis Turbines each coupled to a 130 MW generator.
