Creation of eight more districts a historical decision: Niaz

Member Legislative Council and former Minister for Power, Mohammad Sharief Niaz, while addressing a mammoth Congress workers rally here today, said that credit for creation of eight more districts in the State goes to Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad . ‘What the previous governments could not do in decades, Azad did it in just one year of his tenure, he thundered. He said Azad led government went ahead of Wazir Commission recommendations and announced creation of eight districts against the three recommended by the Commission earlier.
Reminding the people about the achievements of the Congress led government in the State, the Congress leader said that the bold and far reaching steps taken by Azad led government including anti-defection law, enactment of Roshni Act and establishments of Tourism Development Authorities would go in the annals of the history and would be remembered for long. Not only this, the legislation regarding attachment of property of the corrupt officers is unique of its kind and has been appreciated through the country.
Announcing the priorities of the government, the Congress leader said that coalition regime has set a target to provide electricity to all the unconnected villages by 2009.
Responding to the demand for opening of Degree College at Banhinal, the former Minister said that all possible efforts would be made in this direction and announced that the day would not be far off when Banihal would have a Degree College.
Lavishing praise on Chief Minister, UPA Chairperson Mrs Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister, the other speakers conveyed their gratitude to them for giving district status to Ramban and demanded establishment of SDM office at Banihal and immediate shifting of liquor shop from the town.
The meeting was among others addressed by Sajjad Shaeen, Ghulam Nabi Khan, Mohammed Afzal Wani, Abdul Subhan Khandey , Ch. Jamat Ali, Makhan Lal Raina, Sheikh Abdul Rashid, Mohammed Iqbal Katoch, Farooq Ahmed Katoch, Tariq Saleem and Mohammed Akram.
Niaz also addressed a public meeting at Ramban, which was organized by Bharat Gandhi, Ex. MLA and Ashok Kumar.
On this occasion, Vijay Singh Raju, Block President National Conference and S/o late P.N. Raju, Ex. Minister joined the Congress party along with all Block Committee members and their supporters.
