| Rehman for independent probe into Mendhar incident | | | Jammu April 11
Demanding an independent enquiry into the Mendhar incident that caused violence and communal tension, President of the State Unit of Samajwadi Party, Sheikh Abdul Rehman, also demanded appointment of an Authority to investigate into the alleged tampering in the revenue records and scams worth thousand kanals of land.
This demand was made by Rehman when a deputation of party men from Poonch district including office bearers of Block Mendhar called on him here today and brought to his notice the situation arising out of attempts to grab lands at the instance of some local politicians and legislators, who with vested interests also gave communal tinge to their nefarious designs.
The deputation among others comprised Mughal Hussain retired Tehsildar, Nazir Hussain Khan and Mohammed Fani. They also complained about large scale tampering in revenue records in order the grab thousands kanals of land.
Vociferously demanding deterrent action against those involved in the Mendhar incident as also in the alleged land tampering scandal, the SP leader said those politicians and legislators should be pinpointed who are reportedly responsible for instigating the public leading to communal tension.
He said that he would also be visiting Mendhar to make on the spot assessment of the situation after his return from Utter Pradesh, where he is going to join the party’s election campaign.
