| Demilitarization means to vacate orchards and schools: Mehbooba | | Beig abstains from sharing dais | | Rajouri, Aril 11 Playing safe at Rajouri, People’s Democratic Party (PDP) President, Mehbooba Mufti said on Wednesday that Army should vacate all the public and private properties occupied by them for the past some years in populated areas. This, she said, while addressing a thin public meeting organized by the party workers at border district here today. While elaborating her demilitarization demand, Mehbooba said that her party’s demand is to vacate all the orchards school buildings, and other agricultural fields occupied by Army and other Central forces for the past some years. “ We want Army should vacate all the private buildings, schools and orchards which they have been occupying without any rent for several years”, she said adding that the demand has started yielding results as the Army has started moving out from some such places. Moreover, “We are not asking them to go back, we only say to move towards the borders and other non- populated areas”, said Mehbooba. She said her party demand is on Punjab pattern, where the army was withdrawn when the situation had improved there and there after whole of the control was given to Punjab police which had tackled militancy in better way. Referring towards Central government’s approach over their demilitarization demand, Mehbooba said that their party has full support from Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress President Sonia Gandhi. She said, though some leaders in the state openly opposed the demand but Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh have sidelined them by constituting a committee to propose the areas from where the forces are to be pulled back. “Both PM and Congress president have realized the peace willing approach of Mufti Mohammad Sayed”, Mehbooba said. Pointing towards the permanent resolution of Kashmir issue, she said both India and Pakistan should take residents of this state into confidence before reaching at any conclusion. “In any solution of the issue, the people of this state should be taken into confidence”, said Mehbooba . “ Our party suggests that Kashmir should be made free trade zone for all the South Asian countries and all borders be opened for free moment”, she said. Earlier, speaking on the occasion, senior PDP leader and former minister M S Tariq demanded immediate revocation of Armed Forces Special Powers Act, terming it as “black law”. He also raised slogans against this law through which the security forces harass the common people. Chowdhary Zullifkar District President PDP, Mohd Iqbal Malik and Mohd Shafi Dar also spoke on the occasion.
