Sinha inaugurates Shakti Sadan
4/11/2007 1:34:14 PM

Jammu, 11 April
Governor, Lt Gen (Retd) SK Sinha, today inaugurated ‘Shakti Sadan’, a home for women, at Reasi, today. ‘Shakti Sadan’ had been conceived by the Army to support the women victims of militancy from Mahore, Gul, Gulabgarh, Budhal and Paoni Sub-Divisions in the interiors of Udhampur District. The home, built at a cost of almost Rs 25 lacs, comprises of a Vocational Training Centre and a Women Empowerment Centre.
The twin project of ‘Ankur’ & ‘Shakti Sadan’ is based on the underlying philosophy of spreading human kindness and empathy, developing children and women who are victims of militancy, both psychologically and physically, to make them equal with one and all. Based on the above philosophy, ‘Ankur’, the Children home, and ‘Shakti Sadan’ have been co-located to facilitate the ‘share and care’’ concept wherein the children of Ankur get motherly love and affection from the inmates of ‘Shakti Sadan’. It also aims at identifying their potential skills and nurturing the same so that they could achieve a dignified and self sustaining life for themselves.
‘Shakti Sadan’ Infrastructure consists of four fully furnished dormitories with toilet facilities for 30 ladies, a spacious hall for Vocational Training Centre, a modern kitchen, a multipurpose lobby and an office cum residence for the warden and permanent staff. The project has been executed, most efficiently and professionally, by the Uniform Force Signal Regiment.
The proposed VTC and WEC training will afford handsome dividends. Every year 120 women from Reasi and interior areas of Uniform Force will become active members/instructors located at VTC’s in the interiors. In addition, 64 girls ex Govt Girls High School, Reasi will become proficient in basic computer handling every year. A dedicated computer Centre will be readily available for the 41 ‘Ankur’ Children with a dedicated training module. The WEC will educate, apart from 120 VTC trainees, a large Number of women from Reasi and neighboring areas. The project will afford an opportunity to the Civil Administration (SWD and Education Deptt) to be closely involved in the initiative.
