| Civilian Killed, 10 among cop injure in Grenade attack | | | Srinagar April 11 A civilian was killed, while ten others including an IRP head constable were injured when a grenade lobbed by unidentified militants towards a Central Reserve Police Bunker missed the target and exploded on the road in Batmaloo area, here late last night.
Official Sources told News Agency of Kashmir that unidentified militants hurled a grenade on CRPF bunker of 164 Bn. at Rec-Chowk, in Batamaloo area which exploded on road side, causing injuries to 09 civilians and a head constable of IRP 9th Bn. According to eyewitnesses, people were seen running for shelter after the grenade exploded with a big bang injuring ten persons, two of them critically. The grenade is believed to be thrown from a near by lane, police sources said.
The injured were immediately shifted to various hospitals. However a civilian identified as Mohd Yaseen Khan, son of Khazir Mohd, resident of Batamaloo succumbed to his injuries on way to hospital. Police has registered a case in this regard and launched a manhunt to track down the culprits.
There has been a continues increase in grenade throwing incidents in the Srinagar for the past few years, particularly with the onset of tourist season, which was highest during last year when tourists buses were main targets of these attacks.
Moreover, Director General of police Gopal Sharma had recently said at a press conference that intelligence reports have revealed that the militants are attempting to regroup and launch coordinated attacks to vitiate the peaceful atmosphere of the past few months in the state. |
