| BAJ strike enters 6th day, likely to intensify | | | JAMMU, Apr 26 (JNF): As stalemate continued between lawyers and police over alleged manhandling of an Advocate by the cops of Police station Gandhi Nagar, normal work in High Court Jammu wing as well as District Court, Jammu remained paralyzed on the fifth consecutive day today. Normal work in the High Court Jammu wing as well as District Court Jammu remained crippled and people suffered a lot due to non-appearance of the advocates in the court due to strike call. Advocates held a protest demonstration in the court complex, Janipur against, what they said, high handed attitude of the police personnel involved in illegal acts of beating, detention and atrocities on Harshvardhan Gupta. Later, a delegation led by President, JKHCBA, Jammu, M. K. Bhardwaj comprising of its office bearers, former Presidents, senior advocates and office bearers of the YLA, on being invited on a written communication by Divisional Commissioner, Jammu Shantmanu met and apprised him of the whole incident and reiterated its demand for suspension of the erring police officials immediately. They said that suspension would ensure independent, impartial and fair inquiry in the matter can be conducted at the earliest, to restore the public confidence. In order to further intensify ongoing agitation, members of core committee and enforcement committee unanimously resolved to seek support of more political parties, organizations, civil society, public at large, students and all those who are aggrieved of such repeated illegal action of police personnel and those shielding them. Members present opined that such illegal actions of the police need to be condemned by one and all and immediate steps need to be taken by the authorities to restore the shattered confidence of the Advocates in particular and public at large in general. |
