4/26/2014 11:43:54 PM
Jammu, Apr 26: Coming to the rescue of gullible people who are being cheated by lucrative advertisements which lure the gullible consumers to earn substantial amount by sitting at home and doing part time jobs and got refunding of amount of Rs 95000 to the aggrieved person as agreed by the complainant by cheques and also got assurance from offender not to indulge in these kind of practices in future.
According to Manoj Prabhakar Deputy Controller Legal Metrology (Consumer Protection), one retired Govt employee from Srinagar got attracted by one such lucrative advertisement which assured him a return of Rs 15000/- to Rs 1 lakh approx for part time job for which the aggrieved person got some place on rent in Jammu & invested Rs 95000/- on the assurance of the service provider.
He said, "During the first month with great difficulty the complainant managed to perform as per the desire of the service provider but he was compelled later to sell the finished goods to the service provider only at the low price on the will and whim of the advertiser."
"The complainant was further asked to invest more and to sign agreement not to sell to other. On refusal by the complainant he was denied of the supply of raw material and hence left at the mercy of the service provider, he added.
He said that acting swiftly on the complaint to the Joint Controller Legal Metrology Amar Singh, called the service provider to show cause as to why he has adopted restive trade practices to deceive the consumer & thus is the violation of Consumer protection Act.
"The offender pleaded guilty & refunded the whole amount of Rs 95000 to the aggrieved person as agreed by the complainant by cheques & assured the department not to indulge in these kind of practices in future, he added. Yet in another incident, a consumer aggrieved of being supplied defective shoes costing Rs 2400 by Liberty company through its dealer at Gandhi Nagar filed complaint with the department alleging instead of getting replacement, the dealer put him (consumer) to make rounds to the said dealers with no result. "Since the consumer was having a proper bill for the purchase of shoes, the matter was taken with management of liberty company & consumer was refunded full amount of the shoes on the same day, the Dy Controller Legal Metrology (Consumer Protection) added. He also appealed to all the consumers to be careful in investment of their hard earned money and survey sensibly before getting attracted to such misleading advertisements. He also had exhorted consumers to keep their all bills in safe custody to get redressal of their complaints if any at the later stage.
