| Nehru carried personal vendetta against Hari Singh : Chaman | | | Jammu, Apr 26: Maharaja Hari Singh was a great patriot but it was unfortunate that Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru under personal vendetta did not extend fair treatment to this great Prince and made him to die in exile on April 26, 1961. Paying rich tributes on 54th death anniversary of the Maharaja, the former Union Minister and MLA, Chaman Lal Gupta recalled that Hari Singh was the first Indian Prince who had favoured the independence of India at Round Table Conference in November, 1930, held at London. This brought many problems for the Maharaja. These also include the communal trouble of 1931. Gupta also recalled that braving all the pressures of the British imperialists, Maharaja Hari Singh using legal authority had opted for secular India instead of theoretic Pakistan. And thus J&K became legal and irrevocable part of Indian Union. It was irony of fate that under personal and political considerations, Hari Singh was put in exile and he died at Mumbai in exile, he added and regretted that no one of his family members was there when the Maharaja breathed his last on this day. |
