| Mufti Sayeed's peace process paid dividend: Hamid Choudhary | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Apr 26: Expressing his grave concern over the killing of an elected Sarpanch and now a polling staff member in Kashmir, People's Democratic Party (PDP) leader and Co-ordinator for Jammu-Poonch Parliamentary constituency, Abdul Hamid Choudhary today said that violence is refusing to die down and this is no answer to democracy. It was PDP patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed who, during his tenure as chief minister, set the peace process rolling which had also started paying dividend. Time has come to return that era in the state where people's safety and security is considered supreme. In his statement issued here, Choudhary Hamid said the incumbent government has completely derailed the peace process and its leaders were now trying to create unrest in the state by issuing irresponsive statements and vitiating peaceful atmosphere for their personal gains. He urged people to realize that no one except PDP can understand their plight and become a viable alternative to persisting corrupt system in our state. He urged people to get rid of this corrupt system and send credible people to Parliament. Scared of PDP's acceptability amongst masses, the PDP leader said many in power were trying to create a fear psychosis to keep voters away from polling. He hoped that voters will not let wicked designs of 'people in power' to be translated on ground and exercise their right to franchise in coming phases of general elections in Kashmir. Those who always banked on violence and bloodshed stand exposed and need to be rooted out from the political profile of Jammu and Kashmir State. He added that Srinagar city is the first destination of tourists and coalition government could not make it a most sought after place. Instead of adding to the beauty and civic amenities of the capital city, the present government stalled all the development projects initiated by PDP during its regime. The city today is faced with enormous parking problems, sewerage system is not functional, Dal Lake is dying a slow death and tourist accommodation has not been increased to meet the rising demand. |
