This is the first occasion when a performance of contemporary dance is being showcased by ICCR in Jammu and we need to encourage the artistic enthusiasm of younger generation in this field as well. Balwant Thakur further said that ICCR Jammu take pride in the fact that it encouraged variety of talents and forms under its Horizon Series ranging from traditional expressions to contemporary experiments and showcased legendary artists to upcoming talents. Introducing Contemporary dance he said that this evolved during mid of the twentieth century which uses the body's natural lines and energy to create new movements and have a greater range and fluidity than conventional dance. With 16 dancers on stage, Amit Dubey's 'Rhythmic moves in Spring' featured three segments of performances which included one Indian and two in Western styles. In the first act, 'Freedom from the dark', the dancers attempted to explore some of the human emotions through tight practiced but free spirited dance expressions. In this serene-seeming, private world, the dancers moved in ways that are searching, desperate, raw, violent, hopeful and jubilant. The programme concluded with Indian contemporary Dance. Indian Contemporary Dance in India has a relatively short history. In this brave attempt, they highlighted yet another narrative gravitating towards themes of human emotion of hope, loneliness, love and joy. |
