Jammu, Apr 30: Faculty of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry, SKUAST-Jammu, R.S.Pura, Campus has been successful in producing elite lambs through Embryo Transfer Technology (ETT ) in a joint project with Sheep Husbandry Department , Jammu funded by Govt. of India. This project was developed to standardize the technique, harness skills and create skill pool so that this technology can be successfully applied for multiplying superior quality Droper and Rambouillet Sheep available at Sheep Breeding Farm, Panthal. It was collective effort of Dr.A.K.Pandey and his team of Veterinarians from SKUAST-Jammu and Sheep Husbandry Department for more than two years to achieve this success. The two lambs were born on 14th of February, 2014 . Subsequently, two more lambs were born on 20th of March, 2014. By getting multiple ovulation of a quality sheep this technology now be further utilized to produce large number of lambs from one sheep within a short period of time. Rams produced under this project can now be utilized for breeding with local sheep flocks by which lamb of higher genetic potential will be produced. Genetic improvement of sheep will certainly increase mutton and wool production of the Jammu and Kashmir State in near future. Vice-Chancellor, SKUAST-Jammu Professor Pradeep K.
