5/1/2014 12:14:09 AM
Mohammed Shafiq Nazki

Surankote , Apr 30: This historical waterfall is situated between Behramgala and Chandimarh which was one of the major heal thing camps of Emperor Jahangir and his successors.
Mughal Emperor Jahangir was a great lover of nature. He named this water fall as Noori Aabshar after the name of his beloved queen Noor Jahan which in local pahari dialact became famous as Noori Chamb as Chamb means water fall.
Fifty years back the water fall plunged to 75 ft. which was higher than 100 ft. which in Mughal period was higher than 100 ft but at present 2/3rd of its height is not visible due to cutting and eroding of rock for four centuries.
It is said that Queen Noor Jhan during halt of caravan at this "Parrao" used to take bath in drizzling water which made rainbow on fair sunny days. The stony frame in which a royal mirror was fixed narrates a part of romantic story of the queen with Emperor Jahangir.
A large number of tourists from J&K State and other states of India are seen visiting Noori Chamb in summer every Year.
