poonch, Apr 30: Anarchy is ruling roost in Education Department in Poonch district as some politically influential teachers detached from ZEO Office Mankote and directed to join schools near border areas, have refused to join due to political influence in order to siphon off crores of rupees released through central flagship schemes.
According to sources, while G A Qureshi was the Director of School Education, some teachers were given additional charges of various central flagship as well as state Government's schemes for the welfare of borders areas but most of these teachers indulged in criminal misuse of funds.
"Under political influence, they refused to join new places of postings and started intimidating Z.E.O Mankote when latter refused to be hand in glove with them in their nefarious designs", maintained sources.
When contacted, ZEO Mankote, Abdul Rashid Choudhary admitted that he was asked many a times by these influential teachers to sign on some documents related to central schemes but he denied to get involved in this act of forgery and he even asked them to join their new places of postings but they started intimidating him owing to which he shifted his office to a new rented building near the old building seeking permission from SDM Mendhar and other concerned.
"Several schools in the border belt of Poonch are about to close due to lack of teaching staff and there is acute shortage of clerical staff and concerned Z.E.O had intimated it to the concerned quarters several times but all in vain", said maintained sources.
Pertinently in the four zones of Mendhar, Balakote, Harmi and Mankote, only Mankote has a Zonal Education Officer (Z.E.O). Post of Z.E.O is vacant in Mendhar for the last over 1.5 years. In Balakote it is vacant for the last over 5 months. In Harmi, the same is vacant for the last over 1 month.
