Kathua, Apr 30: Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Kathua under the aegis of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu and auspices of Directorate of Extension, SKUAST-J under able guidance of Dr. P. K. Sharma, Vice Chancellor, SKUAST-Jammu organised field day on wheat at Sunjwan village of district Kathua in which a large number of farmers participated. This event was organised in the backdrop of the front line demonstrations laid out for speedy dissemination of latest varieties of wheat viz., HD-2967 in the district. This event was aimed to materialize the objective of laying out demonstrations on wheat and therefore, in the wheat fields a result demonstration was conducted wherein the results in terms of field performance of wheat varieties were shown to the farmers of the area. The farmers applauded in satisfaction that the high yielding wheat varieties which were introduced by Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Kathua are performing better than the previous ones as these are responding better to the production inputs. Besides this, these varieties have high tolerance to yellow rust besides being better market acceptability thus proving to be more remunerative than the traditional varieties.
