| Do not hype the number of tourist arrivals in the state: Dilawar Mir | | | Jammu, April 12 ‘Donot hype the increasing number of tourist arrivals in Jammu and Kashmir keeping in view the safety of the tourists, state Tourism Minister Dilawar Mir on Wednesday said requesting media men not to rake up the issue further. Mir was addressing a press conference here in Jammu where he made this statement in reply to a question, how many tourists were expected to visit the state this year. “I am not going to reply this question and I request you not to hype the issue also. “It is better if you leave it to God to decide on its own the total number of tourist arrivals in the state”, Mir told reporters adding that as tourism Minister he is looking forward to a successful tourist season in the state which will give boost to the tourism industry. He said the department of tourism is taking keen interest in upgrading the infrastructure facilities across the state to provide better facilities to the tourists at various places connected through upcoming tourist circuits in all the three regions Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh. He said, the three day long Jammu Festival is yet another project aimed at promoting culture and heritage tourism in the Jammu region. The festival gets underway on April 13 and will continue till April 15.On the issue of involving lesser number of local artists and delay caused in clearing their payments, Tourism Minister said the allegations leveled by certain people are unfounded and baseless. “I donot think we have ignored any one local artist,Mir said quoting reports of officials of the tourism department and Jammu Mayor Narinder Singh. Mir also gave verbal instructions to Tourism authorities to pay advance cheques to local artists performing on the occasion to avoid any confusion. Responding to another question why there was lack of coordination between different agencies and ministers with regard to organizing Jammu Festival, Mir clarified that the Jammu festival is the brain child of the department of Tourism and he was addressing the press conference as Tourism Minister.He said if any other Minister of the Cong-PDP coalition govt was also addressing the press conference on similar issue, he donot think there is any harm in it apparently referring to R&B Minister Gulchain Singh Charak. 'Charak sahib must be addressing the press conference to highlight some other issues related to Dogra heritage and Mubarak Mandi heritage complex, and I cannot comment further', he added.
