| RTO Kashmir, Kathua earn Rs 28 cr revenue | | Hakeem for comprehensive route permit policy | | Jammu, April 12 Government is actively considering the constitution of Sate Transport Authority (STA) in the state to streamline the process of issuance of licenses, fitness certificates and permits besides identifying the routes fit for plying passenger traffic. He said a comprehensive policy is also required to be evolved to address every issues in this regard. This was announced by the Minister for Transport Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen at a high level officers meeting here today. The Minister said that during past less then one-year transport infrastructure has been improved manifold resulting in increase in revenue and provision of facilities to the commuters besides reducing the graph of traffic accidents. He said Regional Transport Office (RTO) Kashmir has realized a revenue of Rs 21.17 crore while as the RTO Kathua has generate Rs 6.43 crore from the vehicles entering the state. He stressed for adopting proper procedure and ensure codal formalities while issuing licenses and permits to the transporters. He said more manpower would be provided to the RTO Kathua besides strengthening the infrastructure at Toll Post Lakhanpur and Lower Munda to increase the revenue and facilitate the transporters. Hakeem Yasin said that services of diploma holders working in the SRTC would be kept at the disposal of motor vehicles department and RTOs to check the menace of overloading besides curbing the traffic violations. He said all the RTOs and ARTOs would be provided vehicles and motor-bicycles for timely checking of overloading and proper regulation of traffic system. He said land would be identified at all the district headquarters where offices of the ARTOs, Garages, Workshops would be accommodated. The Minister emphasized the concerned to keep vigil over the vehicles of the out side state who are plying in the state without permission. He directed to seize those three-wheelers after 15 days who have not taken the advantage from the amnesty offered earlier for regularizing their vehicles. He underlined the need to increase the revenue besides providing comfortable passenger services to the people adding that the performance of the officers would be reviewed on monthly basis. Hakeem Yasin also reviewed the transport arrangements for 3-day Jammu festival beginning from April 13. He directed the concerned officers to make elaborate traffic arrangements for the people of rural areas attending the festival. He instructed to ensure smooth regulation of traffic within the Jammu City during festival days.
