PESHAWAR, May 8: A roadside remote-controlled blast today killed at least nine Pakistani paramilitary soldiers and critically wounded several others in the restive North Waziristan Agency, bordering Afghanistan.
The Improvised Explosive Device (IED) was planted on the roadside and was detonated as the security forces convoy came near the Miramshah road.
At least nine Frontier Corps personnel were killed and several others were critically wounded, the Pakistani military's media wing, ISPR, said.
Following the incident, additional security personnel immediately reached the site of the incident and cordoned off the area.
Those injured were shifted to a nearby hospital.
No militant group has claimed responsibility for the incident so far which might have been an attack.
North Waziristan is a safe haven for the Pakistani Taliban militants and other terror groups including the al-Qaeda.
The attack comes amidst efforts by the government to find a solution to indiscriminate violence through talks with the Taliban.
This is the first major attack on Pakistani military in the recent past.
